Abstract
The mechanical valve for destroyed human heart valves has been developed since the beginining of the '60s. During 30 years continuous improvements in durability and folw-dynamic properties of the prosthesis were made. New design mechanical valve
has
been developed in Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology since early 1980's. The early model was tilting disc valve, tested in vitro and in animals. The findings form the tilting disc valve was thrombosis on valve disc and pivot of
valve. IN
1988 the valve design was modified to bileaflet disc and made entirely from pyrolic carbon. In 1990 the second animal test was performed. The hemodynamic properties of the valve in tricuspid position was not disturbed but thrombosis on the
prosthetic
valve surface was still observed on autopsy study. The present study was undertaken on the prosthetic valve surface was still observed on autopsy study. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the hemodynamic performance, thrombogenicity,
valve-induced hemolysis of home made mechanical valve on tricuspid position of 4 sheep. Hemodymamic measurement performed within 48 hours of surgery showed normal phyiological hemodynamics. The thrombogenicity of this valve is still the problem
to
be
solved.
